As you well know, each week I post three words. You write something using the words.

Then come back and post a link to the contribution with Mr. Linky (but please, link to the exact post, not your blog, by clicking on the exact post title and paste it to Mr. Linky below). As always, there's no hard-and-fast rule that you have to post on Wednesday.

I do invite everyone to check back often to read and comment on other contributions. This is, after all, a community for writers, poets and bloggers who clamor for your feedback.

Lastly, a question. We've dropped below 30 people a week for the prompt, despite heavy promotion through Twitter. Is 3WW still a viable prompt, or has it run its course? It's been 338 weeks, or 61/2 years of prompts. Please weigh in via the comments section.

This week's words:

Assign; verb: Allocate (a job or duty); appoint (someone) to a particular job, task, or organization; designate or set (something) aside for a specific purpose; transfer (legal rights or liabilities).

Pretense; noun: An attempt to make something that is not the case appear true; a false display of feelings, attitudes, or intentions; the practice of inventing imaginary situations in play; affected and ostentatious speech and behavior.

Traverse; verb: Travel across or through; cross a hill or mountain by means of a series of sideways movements from one practicable line of ascent or descent to another; move (something) back and forth or sideways; noun: A hill or mountain where traversing is necessary; a movement following a diagonal course made by a skier descending a slope.

Thom, I wonder if it's a general trend for creative writing sites or perhaps something driven by Google itself. My blog hit count dropped dramatically last February and has not recovered. I have according to the count half the visits I used to.

There is good news in it. My spam count is also down.

Another instalment of the tale of Herrin & Tryls this week!

Personally, I always look forward to the Three Word Wednesday prompts, and I would be sad to see it come to an end. Keep going, if you can!

Thom, I think the problem is two-fold: greater satuation online affects traffic/response and secondly, participants seem to be more inclined to drop links but for a variety of reasons, aren't responding in kind. 30 is more than enough participation for a community to thrive.

I think it is a matter of commitment. I'll be frank as I was last comment I made. If you're going to drop a link, leave your island and support your peers and respond to your readers. It's poor etiquette otherwise.

I'd hate to see the prompt close but as a former admin, I'd consider it because it is fair for you to commit and members do not.

I was laid up in the hospital so I'm just responding. Will read and make my rounds commenting. Not sure if I'll drop a link though.

I'd say its still a valuable prompt. Hell, we can't even get one person to play with us on our Sunday Picture blog!
The only thing I'd say isn't valuable is the word captcha. Lose that. I can never read those damn things!
